What Are the Different Types of Spine Surgery?

When exercises alone are not enough to cure or solve someone's issues with back pain, then the back pain treatment method should be changed to something more effective such as medication or in severe cases, spine surgery. One cause of severe pain can be due to the narrowing of the spinal cord. A spinal doctor can remove a portion of bone in order to widen the narrowed area depending on the spinal conditions of the patient.

Removing a ruptured disk may also be a satisfactory way in order to solve an individual's back pain. This is because it reduces the pressure on the pressed nerves. It is also the case when a spine surgeon removes the whole disk and fuses the two vertebrae together in order to bring relief. These are all kinds of spine surgery that are used by different spine doctors in back pain treatment. Some of the different surgical procedures can include:

Laminectomy - This is where the spinal canal is reduced due to an overlaying bone which is the enlarged by removing the offending piece bone. This treatment reduces the nerve pressure and therefore relief is obtained.

Discectomy - This occurs when the inflammation of a nerve is causing acute pain to the sufferer. The herniated portion of the disk is removed to cure this problem.

Spinal Fusion - This is a commonly used method in spinal surgery and a surgery does this kind of surgery when there is a need to bring the two vertebrae closer to each other. This surgical procedure is also used to remove the pain caused by an injury to the disk between the vertebrae. The degenerated disk result in the pain on movement of vertebrae.

Vertebroplasty - This is a surgical procedure in which the surgeon injects bone cement into the pinched vertebrae. The conditions on the spine can help stabilize fractured or dislocated vertebrae.

Artificial Disks - When a disk is ruptured between two vertebrae, then spinal fusion is often suggested by a spine surgeon to join the two nearest vertebrae. However, disks which are damaged are now being replaced. This is an expensive treatment option and is currently still being trialed by some medical facilities.

All these spinal surgical procedures are suitable treatment options according to the situation and a spine surgeon can suggest the surgery according to the needs of the patient. Moreover, the decision of surgery should never be taken in a hurry. It is best to get opinions from different spine doctors in order to ensure the best back pain treatment method is chosen. When the decision is taken that surgery is needed, then further steps must also be chosen careful such as the time and place of the surgery. The type of spine surgery must be selected with proper consideration and under particular spinal conditions.

To conclude, if anyone needs back pain treatment, then it should be given importance and unnecessary delays should be avoided to prevent further damage. If spine surgery is needed, then the right procedure must be chosen to ensure that the pain and problems are cured permanently and so that the patient's condition can improve over the coming weeks and months.
